Inauguration of our second plant raw materials processing site in Peru

Jean-Paul Berthomé and Sébastien Debrock
A second processing site for plant raw materials, essential ingredients for the development of our cosmetic active ingredients, our pharmaceutical and cosmetic products

Inaugurated on Tuesday June 4, this new site will enable us to strengthen our mastery of the value chain in order to meet the social and environmental challenges specific to our plant-based raw materials supply chains.

Present in South America for over 20 years, we have strengthened our presence in Peru in recent years, notably with the acquisition of Deshidratados Tropicales in 2016. Based in Lima for over 30 years, Deshidratados Tropicales processes plant raw materials for pharmaceutical and cosmetic uses. The company has 55 employees and maintains partnerships with over 500 local producers.

Deshidratados Tropicales has reached a new milestone with the inauguration of its second production site in the country, producing in particular avocado oil, maracuya oil and maca extracts. An essential plant raw material, avocado is used in 7 of our cosmetic active ingredients1, as well as in Piasclédine®300, our osteoarthritis treatment, and several Mustela dermo-cosmetic products.

Thanks to an optimised and modernised production flow, this new site significantly reduces the gas consumption needed to dry fruit while improving the working conditions of our employees.

In addition, we use our plant-based transformation process to upcycle products and recover 100% of the avocado. Through Deshidratados Tropicales, we promote the purchase of avocados from sorting deviations, ensuring a source of income for small producers while combating waste.

For over 15 years, we have deployed a policy of responsible plant sourcing for our supply chains in France and abroad, based on best practices respectful of people and biodiversity established by the UEBT (Union for Ethical BioTrade), of which we have been a member since 2011, as well as respect for international agreements on access to natural resources and human rights.
